Programmatic SEO
Build 10,000 pages once from one template and real data. Find a keyword pattern with hundreds of low-competition variations, build one excellent template, fill it with data, publish and interlink.
What works
A dataset competitors can’t copy. Zapier builds pages for every app, app pair and workflow from its 6,000 integrations and grew from 1.19M to about 9M monthly organic visitors. Salt Agencycase study
Where it breaks
Pages that don’t differ get ignored, and Google can tell. Most earn tens of visits each, so the play only works in aggregate. Good data is the upfront cost.
The essay’s napkin math next to Failory’s numbers
| The essay’s napkin math | Failory, measured | |
|---|---|---|
| Pages | 10,000 (assumed) | ~4,900 |
| Visits per page a month | 30 (assumed) | ~20 |
| Monthly visitors | 300,000 | ~100,000 (55% of site traffic) |
| How it started | a multiplication | 3 test pages, 30 days |
Failory, two people with a Google Sheet of 350+ pitch decks, published three test pages first. They got 58, 50 and 7 clicks in 30 days, enough to scale. Of all 27 sources, that’s the step I’d copy.
How to start
- Pick one pattern with hundreds of low-competition variations.
- Build the dataset: scrape it with Firecrawl, curate it, or use a database you already have.
- Publish 3 pages and wait 30 days.
- Then publish 100 and aim for 80%+ indexed in Search Console.
- Give each page 3 to 5 sibling links. Orphan pages don’t rank.
The cast
- The dataset was a Google Sheet and a freelancer curating 350+ pitch decks
- Went after what people search for. “Automation platform” gets only about 400 searches a month
- A page for every currency pair and SWIFT code, and 60M+ monthly organic visits
- Build SEO pages from your product’s data instead of a content calendar
